Tree Plantation Campaign Inaugurated

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated the tree plantation campaign of spring season by planting tree of bottle palm at Chief Minister’s Secretariat, here today. Members Provincial Assembly, Secretary Forest, Director General PHA and DCO Lahore were also present on this occasion.

Talking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the objective of the tree plantation campaign is to create awareness among the people about the environmental and economic benefits of trees and motivate them for planting maximum trees. He said that the tree plantation plays an important role for eliminating environmental pollution, therefore, people should plant maximum trees during the campaign. He said that trees not only enhance natural beauty of the cities but also provide a clean environment to the people. He said that the energy resources are of great importance for country’s economy and we can generate additional resources of energy by planting trees. He asked the people to take active part in tree plantation campaign and plant maximum trees in and around their homes for enhancing the natural beauty of the country. He stressed upon the youth to take active part in the tree plantation campaign as this promotes sentiments of love with nature in the people and constitutes an ideal society.

Secretary Forest told that 20 million trees would be planted during tree plantation campaign. He said that Forest Department has set up 266 sale points for providing saplings in the province during the campaign. He said that seven million saplings would be planted on the land of Forest department, 4.6 million on the land of other departments and 8.4 million by the private owners.
